Positive Parenting Program (Triple P)
Parenting isn’t always easy. The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is here to help! The trained Triple P Parent Educators teach families how to spend less time battling misbehavior and more time building close relationships. Parents and caregivers will develop skills to manage stress and encourage healthy habits.
Triple P doesn’t tell anyone how to be a parent. Instead, we offer practical advice, backed by science and the successes seen by thousands of families.
Triple P is built on five principles of positive parenting:
- Ensuring a safe, interesting environment
- Creating a positive learning environment
- Using assertive discipline
- Having realistic expectations
- Taking care of yourself as a parent
If a family has specific concerns with a child’s behavior or development and would like more one-on-one support, a Parent Educator will work with your family personally to identify the cause, learn parenting strategies, and set goals.
We have a variety of other ways for you to experience the program. Find the one that is the right fit for you!
Seminars (in English & Spanish): This is our introduction to positive parenting strategies in a 3-part seminar series. Classes will focus on general parenting challenges and building caregivers’ confidence in communication, self-esteem, and handling emotions.
Group (English & Spanish): This 8-week group class is a terrific way to meet other parents/caregivers and can provide more in-depth parenting support. The Parent Educator will help participants set specific goals to manage a targeted challenging behavior to work on over the course of the 8 weeks.
Discussion Groups/Workshops: These are small group-guided sessions that offer a lot of peer support. Topics include dealing with disobedience, bedtime routines, bullying, tantrums, and much more.
Stepping Stones: This 3-part seminar series is for parents/caregivers of children with special needs. The Parent Educator can teach you ways to help your child reach their potential and turn any problem behavior into positive behavior.
Parents as Teachers (PAT)
PAT is designed to achieve seven primary goals when implemented with fidelity:
- Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve positive parenting practices
- Provide early detection of developmental delays and connection to services
- Prevent child abuse and neglect
- Increase children’s school readiness and success
- Improve parent, child, and family health and well being
- Improve family economic well-being
- Strengthen community capacity and connectedness
During visits, our home visiting professionals assess family needs and partner with parents to set family goals. Home visitors provide necessary information and resources to help parents support the emotional, behavioral, and physical development of their children. Each personal visit includes a focus on parent-child interaction, development centered parenting, and family well-being. Other incentives include:
- Free diapers, wipes, and other baby items
- Community outings for the family
- Connecting with other local resources
- …and much more!
This program is FREE to all families and is available in both English and Spanish.

Connections Count
Connections Count is a new voluntary program for families with young children (ages 0-5 years) who live in high need communities or neighborhoods.
The purpose is to:
- Engage children and their families with the different types of support within their community
- Help families get benefits and services that meet their needs
- Connect adults to leadership opportunities in their neighborhoods
The program’s goal is to help families with young children build social connections in their community. To reach this goal, a trusted member of the community in a local organization will work with families. This person is called a Community Connector.
The Community Connector is not a case manager. The Community Connector is someone who understands local resources. They have the skills to educate and guide families to neighborhood supports.
The Community Connector will:
- Work with families in their homes or trusted community space
- Identify needs and set goals with families
- Connect families with:
- Resources
- Services
- Other supports

Choosing childcare is an important decision. Family & Childcare Resources of N.E.W. maintains a database of all regulated childcare programs in our service area.
