Duties and Responsibilities of the Job:

Family & Childcare Resources of N.E.W. has an opening for an Early Childhood Consultant. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of optimal environments and experiences in a regulated childcare program, quality improvement with in a childcare setting, adult learning styles, and experience in leading change.

Responsibilities:


A. Provide consultation to childcare programs:

  1. Support Quality Improvement in family childcare and group centers
  2. Participate in professional development opportunities
  3. Participate in monthly calls
  4. Assess programs using quality indicators
  5. Provide support to existing childcare providers/administrators
  6. Report on work performed (Microsoft Office products utilized)

B. Training/Educational Events

  1. Deliver training for childcare providers
  2. Participate in agency educational and outreach events

¿Como ayudar y apoyar a nuestros hijos en la escuela en estos tiempos de cuarentena?

Esta pregunta parece ser la que más escucho de los padres con los que trabajo. Sin duda estos pasados 6 meses han sido tiempos de muchos retos para los padres que tienen a sus hijos en la escuela. Esta nueva modalidad de enseñanza en línea ha sido muy difícil y un largo proceso de adaptación, tanto de los estudiantes como padres de familia y profesores. Creo que cada grupo enfrenta diferentes obstáculos. Los maestros no estaban acostumbrados a enseñar en esta nueva plataforma, los estudiantes deben de usar nuevas habilidades para poder concentrarse y aprender de la misma manera que lo hacían en las escuela, pero los padres de familia, son los que enfrentan quizá más estrés con esta situación, porque aunque son vitales y sirven muchas veces como puente de comunicación entre maestro y alumno, muchas cosas están fuera de su control, como la capacidad de atención y aprendizaje de sus hijos y la manera en que el maestro facilita la clase. Por esta razón me gustaría que reflexionáramos juntos a cómo ser útiles en estos tiempos de transición.

Expectativas Realistas

Siempre que tengo conversaciones con los padres de familia y me cuentan de algún problema o reto que están experimentando, siempre les hago esta pregunta. ¿Cuáles son sus expectativas en este proceso de aprender en casa? ¿Estarán siendo expectativas realistas? ¿Ha platicado con sus niños acerca de cuáles son las expectativas que tienen ellos como niños en esta nueva experiencia de enseñanza en línea? Quizás ellos piensan que la escuela y los padres esperan mucho de ellos y eso los hace llenarse de estrés. ¿Ha conversado con el maestro del niño, de qué espera de usted como padre de familia? A veces hacernos esta simple pregunta puede poner nuestros pensamientos en orden y relajarnos, tal vez el maestro no espera que usted se convierta en profesor, tal vez lo que desea es apoyo y compresión tanto para su hijo como para ellos como profesores.

Recordemos que este proceso es nuevo para todos, muchos padres están pasando por la misma situación, hay muchas dudas, preguntas, pero si practicamos la paciencia las respuestas llegarán y esta situación mejorará y pasará como todo proceso de vida. Lo más importante es la actitud con la que vivimos el proceso. Cuando todo esto termine vamos a salir fortalecidos y con muchísimas nuevas habilidades, ahora sabemos que podemos seguir aprendiendo, no importa si no estamos físicamente presentes, quizá en un futuro sus niños ya no perderán clases por no estar presentes en la escuela, sino que lo podrán hacer desde casa. Esta transición nos va a dejar muchísimos talentos que no sabíamos que teníamos y que va a ser de mucho beneficio para todos.

Lo importante es la actitud, si los padres apoyan a sus hijos con buena actitud y con compasión sabiendo que todos están tratando y haciendo lo mejor que pueden, y que tal vez los resultados no se vean al instante, pero si a largo plazo, tal vez los niños se sentirán apoyados y motivados con confianza en ellos mismos para enfrentar de la mejor manera este proceso, de la misma forma los profesores se sentirán más motivados a enseñar, sabiendo que sus lecciones están siendo bien recibidas. Recuerden tener siempre una buena actitud en todo lo que realicen, pero al mismo tiempo practicar mucho la compasión.
